This was one of those locations that had a drastically different concept piece. When we started the concept had this area far more disheveled and ransacked, a lot like many of our other areas of the game and art direction decided to tell a different story. The new "concept" was that this family just packed up and left when things got bad. No burglary, no struggle, just everyone packed up the necessities and left. It was a big change for us and telling that abandoned story was a lot more challenging than I expected it to be. We had to think more about water staining and dust, and less about debris and destruction. It was a fun challenge though and I worked with a great team.
I was responsible for textures and materials on the interior and exterior, as well as integrating outsourced assets (making sure they got the right amount of dust added and sun faded colors). Modeling provided by partner in crime Santiago Gutierrez.
